Local Geography Study

This week in Geography we started to look at our new topic of local geography in comparison to a town/ city in Europe. To start off our new topic we started to look at our local area of Aberford and get to know more about the area at our doorstep! Through looking at facts all about Aberford such as the population, things you can do and other interesting facts we each developed a large fact file.

This work is building towards the rest of the unit of work where we will eventually create reports about Aberford in comparison to another area of Europe. Everyone was deeply engaged in the work and are excited to see how our life compares to other children all over the world.

Some of the classes favourite interesting facts were:

  • “Aberford used to be known as the Great North Road, as a lot of people travelled through Aberford delivering items”
  • “Aberford sits nearly exactly in the middle of London and Edinburgh so a lot of people rested in Aberford”
  • “Cock beck used to be a large river flowing through the town, but over hundreds of years the river shrunk so much it’s now just a beck”
