At Aberford, it is our policy that all children wear a uniform when attending school or when participating in school-organised events outside the normal school hours. Our policy is based on the belief that school uniform:

  • promotes a sense of pride in our school and develops a sense of community and belonging;
  • Ensures children of all backgrounds feel welcome;
  • Identifies children with our school when taking part in out-of-school educational activities and visits;
  • Allows all children to feel equal with others in terms of appearance;
  • Does not cause a distraction during the school day;
  • Has a positive impact on the behaviour of children in school.

Our uniform has been designed so that most of it is easily obtainable from chain stores or supermarkets at reasonable prices. Our items with the school logo can be purchased from the SPT Uniform shop on Main Street, Garforth. It is the responsibility of parents and carers to ensure that children have the correct uniform and that it is clean and in good repair.

School Uniform:

  • Red jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt with or without logo
  • White polo shirt with or without logo
  • Grey trousers, tailored shorts, skirts or pinafore dress
  • Red and white checked gingham summer dress
  • Sensible black shoes (not sling-backs, high heels, etc). If trainers are worn, they must be plain black without patterning
  • Black, white or grey socks or tights (or leggings under skirts/dresses when it gets very cold)

PE Kit:

  • White or black t-shirt with or without school logo
  • Black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms
  • Trainers or pumps
  • Black tracksuit top (avoid branded logos)

Swimming:

  • One-piece costume, trunks or swimming shorts (above the knee)
  • Towel
  • Long hair must be tied back and a swimming cap is advised.
  • Jewellery must be removed

With over 100 children in school, it can be extremely difficult to locate and return lost uniform. Please ensure that every item of your child’s clothing (including PE kit) is clearly labelled with permanent ink or name strips. If your child is unable to wear an item of the uniform temporarily, please let us know as soon as possible. Makeup is not permitted in school and jewellery is restricted to single ear studs, watches and medical I.D bracelets. As schools can have times when head lice can be a problem, if your child has long hair, we advise that it be tied back.
